My favourite forum for everything related to domains and web design. Membership is free and even new members have almost unrestricted access and privileges. There are no fees for buying and selling domains. Thank you NamePros.

Another great forum for domains, content development and traffic monetization. Whilst it's free to join and browse, some areas are limited to paying members.

Commission Free Sales Venue:

This new marketplace for short domains charges no commission on sales and basic listings are also free. Prospective members must have at least 50 domains and solid reputation to be approved, to help ensure marketplace integrity. The selling tools offer more options than at any other sales venue I've tried. The categories are very domainer friendly which really helps when searching out names of interest.

My favourite site for checking page rank, backlinks, link popularity and other variables that can affect the potential value of a domain. There is a very useful fake PageRank detection tool. Always check domains that are advertised for sale with Google PageRank; as many are faked by redirecting to another site that has the PageRank.

Another good site for checking domain metrics. I particularly like the backlinks checker as it displays the PageRank of all backlinks.

Matt Jewell Bulk Domain Availability Checker

Need to check the availability of hundreds or even thousands of domain names in real time? This PHP written script is the quickest and most reliable I have used and it's completely free. There is an option to save the results to a text file and the source code is available to download.

Use the WayBackMachine to determine if a domain has any history from 1996 to the present day. Backlinks to expired domains have a better chance of remaining if a new site is developed with similar content. If there are no results for your domain and it expired recently, try the Google cache.

alexa.com Traffic Rankings

Check the traffic ranking of any domain. Geographical stats are included. Rankings are calculated based on the browsing activity of Alexa Toolbar users. Closest to 1 (currently Yahoo) is best. Ensure that the domain you enter matches the domain in the result.

Overture Keyword Selector Tool

This very useful tool will show you how many internet searches there were in the preceding month for your chosen search term/keyword. It may also show searches containing your term. Generally the more searches the better. Do not rely on this tool alone as it currently displays results for January 2007.

Wordtracker Free Keyword Suggestion Tool

An excellent alternative to the Overture Keyword Selector Tool that is kept up-to-date. Enter a starting keyword to generate up to 100 related keywords and an estimate of their daily search volume in all the major search engines.

A fully searchable database of all remaining LLLL.com domains. Provides a very useful daily drop list. This site is no longer updated but still makes for very interesting reading. All remaining LLLL.com names were bought out on November 2nd 2007.

Philipp Lenssen has collected and compared the Google page count for other 27,000 words in an English dictionary for these two years and made them available in a downloadable CSV file. Google definitions and synonyms are included.
